WHAT IS BEAUJOLAIS NOUVEAU:

Thursday November 19th is Beaujolais Nouveau Day, a time to celebrate new French wines, fresh from the harvest.

This famous day in a wine lovers calendar is celebrated every year on the third Thursday of November and is a young wine made from Gamay grapes. Notoriously juicy stuff. Exactly on the stroke of midnight, Beaujolais residents open the barrels of the new wine and declare: Le Beaujolais Nouveau est arrivé!

This also coincides with the timing of the release of all Beaujolais Nouveau wines available for sale across the globe because under French law, they cannot be released any sooner than this date!

The Cheat Sheet

We've been going back to the same growers in Beaujolais for years, so this year we asked for our own cuvée: old-vine Gamay, hand-picked, carbonic, nothing added and nothing taken out. It was in a tank in Villié-Morgon in September and it will be in your fridge in November.

French law says nobody can sell it before the third Thursday of November. So at midnight, barrels everywhere crack open at once and it lands in glasses across the world on the same night. No ageing, no cellar, no waiting around.

What it tastes like

Squashed strawberries. Zero seriousness

Bright, juicy, candy-like red fruit, barely any tannin. Chill it slightly and don't think too hard. This is the wine equivalent of good gossip: fun, a bit chaotic, gone fast
